England’s Rose faces bloomin’ tough week

- ■ by PAUL HETHERINGTON

DANNY ROSE is facing a crunch week with both club and country.

The Tottenham left-back’s place in the England squad is under threat with manager Gareth Southgate naming his pool of players on Thursday for the upcoming matches against Spain and Switzerland.

That is because he has not figured so far this season under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is prepared to let Rose go abroad this week before the European transfer window closes. If he fails to make the England squad, there could be a recall for Manchester United’s Luke Shaw. His chances of a move, either permanently or on loan, could now depend on Marseille.

Rose, 28 (left) has been linked with Paris Saint-German and Schalke – but both those moves look to be non-starters.

Like Spurs team-mate Toby Alderweireld, the Doncaster-born star was also linked with United.

But the Red Devils informed Spurs before the Premier League transfer window closed that they would not be making a move for either player. Over at Old Trafford, Ander Herrera is close to agreeing a new two-year deal and further talks are planned for the international break.

Herrera, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and wants to stay at Old Trafford.

That is despite the increased competition in midfield following the signing of Fred and the emergence of Andreas Pereira.

The Daily Star Sunday revealed a fortnight ago that United were ready to address the futures of midfielders Herrera and Juan Mata.
