MAXIME EGG-SPECTS IMPROVEMENT

- ■ by TONY STENSON

Last five meetings Overall record FULHAM’S new French signing Maxime Le Marchand sounded like countryman Michel Roux Jr when he asked fans to keep their nerve.

The former Nice defender is convinced the newly promoted side will soon start serving up saucy, Michelin-star football after two defeats in two games. Le Marchand (left) sees a table groaning with goodies at Fulham and used an old French saying of ‘La mayonnaise prend’ to explain how he sees the future. Roughly translated it means, ‘Making a good mayo takes time’.

He said: “We need to gel and it will happen. We need to believe, be patient.

“It has been a baptism of fire and now we know what is needed to compete. We saw what Harry Kane and others like him can do.”

If Le Marchand does allow his standards to drop he has someone at home who will read him the riot act. His wife is a big football fan and keeps him on his toes with reviews of his performances.

“She is my biggest critic, she tells me if I can do better,” the Fulham ace said.

Le Marchand, 28, chose a move to Craven Cottage this summer after taking advice from Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira, the Nice boss.

He added: “I’ve always dreamt of playing in England. Patrick did not try and convince me to stay at Nice. No, he knew my situation.

“He said Fulham was a very good club with a philosophy of playing the game very well.”
