RED TOPS Klopp’s looking down on the rest after Mo bags again at Anfield

- ■ by PAUL HETHERINGTON

LIVERPOOL climbed to the top of the Premier League for the first time in almost two years last night.

Mo Salah’s goal gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a 1-0 win against Brighton at Anfield.

It also took the Reds to the top of the pile for the first time since November 2016.

Despite the fact it is only the third match of the season the Kop is already dreaming of Liverpool’s first title since 1990.

James Milner, an outstanding performer again in the engine room, said: “Sometimes you have to grind out results and yes it’s early days but there is no better place to be than top of the league.

“If Mo gets those chances he is going to take them and he’ll get the headlines but credit has to go to the keeper and the boys at the back for keeping a clean sheet.”

Kop boss Klopp added: “I am very happy with the result and we had enough chances to score more.

“We deserved the three points but there is a lot of space for improvement.

“We are used to managing expectations at Liverpool. There is a lot of work to do.”

Salah’s match-winning goal was his 29th goal in 29 games at Anfield.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton said: “We were close to coming away with a great result even though Liverpool were the better team.”
