Thommo: New age for stars

-

COLD Feet star John Thomson says the cast is so old now they no longer socialise off set.

The actor is best known for portraying Pete Gifford, husband of 52-year-old Fay Ripley’s Jenny, on the show.

James Nesbitt, 53, Hermione Norris, 51, and Robert Bathurst, 61, play the other Mancunian muckers with Helen Baxendale, 48, the sixth member of the gang, who broke the nation’s heart when she was killed off in a car crash.

John, 49, said: “I was a youth when I started, 27.

“We’re older and wiser now and there’s a maturity that gets the job done.

“Jimmy and myself used to paint the town red back in the day. They were rock ’n’ roll days and I loved it.

“Now, as Jimmy very wisely says, we do our socialising on set.

“When we’re reading our lines, we catch up. If you form a bond behind the scenes, it shows on screen.”

The ITV series, which first aired in 1997, made a successful return in 2016. A third season is due out this autumn.

John added: “We are so blessed to come back and have such success again.

“Not many people have that luxury. There were a lot of rumours about it coming back but I never anticipated it would. “When the first episode went out, the figures were off the scale and it was the third-highest trending thing on Twitter.”
