Lions left to feel the McBurn

- By DAVID HYDE

SWANSEA CITY overcame a man and a goal disadvantage to stun Millwall with a comeback victory.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men after less than five minutes. Making his first Championship start, Courtney Baker-Richardson miscontrolled the ball and then lunged into James Meredith.

The awful challenge left Meredith on the floor and gave ref Graham Scott no option but to send him off.

Millwall looked to turn the screw and had the better chances. Lee Gregory blasted over from an acute angle after 13 minutes.

Jed Wallace spurned the easiest opportunity of the game after 23 minutes when, after Steve Morison knocked the ball down, he scuffed wide from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy.

Swansea suffered yet another blow on 34 minutes when skipper Leroy Fer limped off, with Kyle Naughton taking his place.

Millwall were content to keep firing the ball in from deep, although Gregory was unable to get on to the end of more downward headers by Morison.

Swansea were not content to sit back for the draw after the break and Mike van der Hoorn just failed to get on to the end of a Martin Olsson cross after 49 minutes.

The hosts were still looking to press home their one-man advantage, although Aiden O’Brien was guilty of firing well over 10 minutes after the break, despite a run from halfway.

The hosts finally took the lead in the 62nd minute when Murray Wallace flicked past Erwin Mulder after a Jake Cooper header from a corner.

A second goal always looked likely to clinch it for the South Londoners, yet it was Swansea who stunned the home side after 76 minutes.

Jefferson Montero found Naughton in the box, who was able to find space to fire home through a crowded penalty area to level.

The Swans sucker-punched Millwall with five minutes to go. An excellent passing move by Bersant Celina and Montero found Oliver McBurnie, who slotted home from close range.

Tom Carroll almost made sure in injury time when his shot hit the post and away to safety, while Millwall’s Tom Elliott saw his last-gasp header hit the bar.
