DOWNER: Florian Lejeune is stunned as an own goal by DeAndre Yedlin (right) gifts victory to Chelsea JAMES MILNER is chasing the dream of an historic title-winning double after writing himself into the record books at Manchester City.

The Liverpool “veteran” at 32 helped his old club City win their first league title for 44 years under Roberto Mancini in 2012.

And now Milner is determined to lead Liverpool to their first since 1990 after their flying start to the new season with four straight victories.

The midfielder said: “Liverpool have an amazing history and that’s why I wanted to come here in the first place. The club have won so many trophies but maybe not as many in recent history as we’d have liked.

“Arguably, a trophy is the only thing missing for us at the moment and I want to be part of starting that again.

“To win the Premier League you’ve got to be talked about as a genuine contender halfway through the season – and then take it from there.”

Milner has strong links with the two clubs and he would love his experience at City in winning trophies to be repeated at Anfield. He added: “At City, winning the FA Cup was massive to start it off and get that belief.

“Then we won a couple of Premier League titles and the League Cup after that.

“We’ve had excellent chances here – two European finals and a League Cup Final. You can see how close we are – you don’t get to two European finals without being a very good team.

“You’ve seen some of our performances and the sides we’ve beaten. We’re so close. It’s just about getting over the line in one final to get that winning belief.”
