DARN & DUSTED

Rising star cruises it

TOO DARN HOT maintained his unbeaten record with a stylish victory in Doncaster’s Champagne Stakes.

John Gosden’s colt cemented his place at the head of the betting for next year’s 2000 Guineas and Derby.

Trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori, Too Darn Hot was sent off the 4-11 favourite in what was billed as a head-to-head with Dark Vision.

The latter raced alongside the eventual winner early on but when Dettori started to take a stronger hold, the writing was on the wall for Mark Johnston’s colt, who dropped away tamely.

Too Darn Hot triumphed by a length and three-quarters from Phoenix Of Spain at the line.

Gosden said: “He was impressive and it took Frankie a long time to pull him up.”

Dettori said: “What he did between the three furlong pole and the one furlong pole blew me away.

Paddy Power cut Too Darn Hot to 7-2 from 6-1 for the 2,000 Guineas. HOT TO TROT: Dettori steers Too Darn Hot to victory
