Hamsik is left Schik as a dog by Patrik
SUBSTITUTE Patrik Schick headed home a late winner just three minutes after his introduction to seal a 2-1 win for Czech Republic.
Napoli star Marek Hamsik celebrated becoming his country’s most capped player with an equaliser following Michael Krmencik’s opener, but Slovakia were unable to record a fifth successive home win in competitive action.
Both sides went into the game without a point having been beaten by group leaders Ukraine last month.
After an even first half the visitors went in front in the 52nd minute when Borek Dockal threaded a pass
through to Krmencik, who made no mistake with just the keeper to beat.
Hamsik responded 10 minutes later by tapping home his 22nd international goal, putting him one behind Robert Vittek on the nation’s all-time scoring list.
But Roma striker Schick ensured it would not be a fairytale day for the record-breaker as he scored with his second touch off the bench to leave Slovakia rooted to the bottom of Nations League Group B1.
Gibraltar made history as they won a competitive international for the first time with a 1-0 win in Armenia.
Despite the hosts creating
35 shots on goal and boasting Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan in their line-up, they failed to find a way to beat Gibraltar keeper Kyle Goldwin.
Joseph Chipolina was the hero from the penalty spot five minutes after half-time.
Elsewhere, Georgia sealed top spot in Group D1 by seeing off Andorra 3-0.
Valeri Qazaishvili grabbed a double, while Jaba Kankava added a third in stoppage time after Andorra’s Marcio Vieira had been sent off.
In the same group, Latvia and Kazakhstan played out a 1-1 draw to both move level on two points with Andorra.
Baktiyor Zaynutdinov broke the deadlock adter 16 minutes but Latvia’s Arturs Karasausks restored parity five minutes before the break.
Meanwhile, Slovenia are still without a point in Group
C3 after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Norway.
The visitors failed to register a single shot on target and were undone on the stroke of half-time by a screamer from Ole Selnaes, who rifled a left-footed volley from the edge of the area into the top corner.
