Jack joked that he could do a “Ken Barlow” by staying in the ITV soap into his 80s, like Corrie legend Bill Roache, 86.

He said: “If I could, and I was still liking it, still getting the stories and the people were still nice then, yeah.

“It’d be great to be old David.” Jack is in a relationship with Hanni Treweek, who works as a writer on the show.

But she has never come up with an idea for his character.

Jack said: “She works at our place. She’s a storyliner but she’s never storylined for me.

“She won’t do anything for my character. She said it would be weird to come in with an idea for her boyfriend.” DAILY STAR SUNDAY SAYS – PAGE 6
