JUDY P: Never mind Poldark... we deliver in the telly ratings war

CALL The Midwife star Judy Parfitt is furious rival show Poldark gets so much attention.
The TV favourite reckons her series deserves more credit.
She fumed: “Call The Midwife is the best show on television.
“And it’s the most viewed show on television, regardless of what all the headlines are on Poldark and everything else.
“They say, ‘Oh, they got seven million viewers.’ And I think, ‘Excuse me, we get 10million.’
“It’s infuriating when you see across all the papers that it is the top show. I’m thinking, ‘I’m in the top show’.”
In the new year Call The Midwife will rack up its eighth run. Meanwhile, Poldark is being shelved after just five series.
Judy said: “I have watched Poldark. I think it’s a great show. I just think ours is better. On our show the stories are all true.
“Poldark is entertainment. We are entertainment, but we make you think at the same time.”
Call The Midwife is one of the most popular dramas ever.
The series, which also stars Helen George, regularly wins awards.
Judy, who plays Sister Monica Joan, reckons it outshines other period dramas because of its strong characters.
She said: “The thing about the writing is all the characters are multilayered and complex. You have always got a lot to think and discover. “Every time something crops up that hasn’t before you realise it’s part and parcel of the character’s personality. They’re not one dimensional.”
