Kareem sacked by Chiefs

- ■ by MICHAEL HAM

KAREEM HUNT has been sacked by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The star running back was placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list after a video of him attacking a woman in a Cleveland hotel back in February surfaced on Friday.

In the shocking clip, Hunt is seen shoving the woman to the ground while being restrained by friends. He then kicks her while she is on the floor.

AFC leaders Kansas, who face Oakland today, released Hunt, 23, hours after the video was aired.

“Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt,” a Chiefs statement said.

“At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him.

“Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact. We are releasing Kareem immediately.”

Hunt has also apologised for his actions. He said: “I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this.”

In the video, Hunt and the woman, separated by several people on multiple occasions, trade words with each other. Hunt then pushes the woman, who responds by hitting him in the face.

Hunt is then escorted down a hallway before charging out, colliding with a man who knocks the woman over. Hunt then walks over and kicks the woman in the leg.

After being released by the Chiefs, the NFL put

Hunt (right) on the commissioner’s exempt list, meaning if another team does sign him, he cannot play in or attend games until the investigation is over

– and a decision on potential disciplinary action is made.

Hunt has been by far the Chiefs’ most effective rusher this season with seven touchdowns and 824 yards.
