MAD DOG MARCUS

Rashford leads bite-back

- ■ by HARRY PRATT

MOUR WORDS OF WISDOM: Mourinho barks out his instructions JOSE MOURINHO last night claimed Marcus Rashford was the only Manchester United player to show any ‘mad-dog spirit’ at Southampton.

England hitman Rashford inspired United’s latest fightback from 2-0 down as he set up goals for Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera to earn a point.

But while hailing the United saviour, Mourinho was far from happy with the rest of his underachievers.

The Old Trafford boss did not hold back post-match when he suggested only Rashford had shown the required guts and desire at St Mary’s.

Mourinho said: “It doesn’t matter about the system, it has to do with the characteristics of the players and we don’t have many mad dogs.

“I am talking about ones who fight for the ball all the time and press all the time.

“We don’t have many with that spirit – people who are aggressive on the ball and fight hard to recover it.

“I would say Marcus was a mad dog until he was, let’s say, very, very tired.”

Mourinho, whose side are six points off the top four, was jeered by the travelling fans after subbing Rashford.

But he added: “Marcus asked to come off with an injury because he had been tackled and hit all day long.

“It was the type of injury that would keep some players out for two weeks but not Marcus.” Match report: RESULT! P4-5 EXPLANATION: Rashford and Mourinho
