Jose can pile the pressure on Toral

-

JOSE MOURINHO takes his Manchester United side to Spain to face a Valencia side in turmoil.

The Spaniards have won just three of their 15 La Liga games and are languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Their poor start, mirrored by United in the Premier League, has left coach Marcelino Garcia Toral under pressure and clashing with his stars – just like Mourinho.

Tension bubbled over between Toral and striker Goncalo Guedes – who has yet to score since he signed from Paris SaintGermain in the summer

– in the recent 2-0 defeat at Real Madrid.

He called the Portugal international to the touchline less than half an hour into the game at the Bernabeu and was involved in a heated discussion.

Cameras caught Toral telling Guedes: “There have been 27 minutes and you have not yet done anything”.

The striker, 22, reacted angrily as the pair continued their spat.

And with more shades of events at United, another of Toral’s players – striker Santiago Mina – has added to the unease with criticism of their style.

He said: “We are playing without personality, without any depth to our play.

“Everything is missing and we must learn from this quickly.

“We know we are not doing the right things, we are discussing this and trying to rectify it.

“But it is not an easy process.”

Earlier in United’s Champions League group it was thought Mourinho and his stars would have to go to Valencia and win to go through to the knockout phase next year.

But a surprise victory at Juventus and a last-minute goal from Marouane Fellaini against Swiss side Young Boys last month have already seen United qualify from Group H.

Valencia are five points behind after as many games and can not qualify for the knockout stages.
