DOC SAYS MORG CAN BE TOPS
MATT DOHERTY is sure Morgan Gibbs-White will be no flash in the pan – but warned the teenager against thinking he’s made it.
The youngster, 18, enjoyed a stunning full debut as Wolves gave Chelsea a jolt in midweek, confirming the playmaker’s cameos off the bench have been no fluke.
Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy raved about the wonderkid – a World Cup winner with England Under-17s last year – saying: “He’s going to be special.”
And Doherty (right) added: “Morgan can be top class if he keeps his head down. That’s what he’s got to do, just focus on what’s in front of him.
“He’s been impacting the games a lot when he comes in. He got his start, made a huge impact and a lot of people are talking about him.
“At his age it can’t be easy for that many people to be chatting about him.
“We don’t begrudge him anything. He deserves all the accolades he can get. Not many play against Chelsea at the age of 18 and put in a performance like that.
“If he starts again, he’s got to go again. He needs to be doing what he is doing. You see it happen a lot when youngsters come in and fade away.
“But he’s a huge prospect for Wolves and England.”
Molineux was bouncing in midweek as the hosts recorded arguably their finest result in the Premier League over
Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Doherty, however, is expecting a different task on Tyneside when they face
Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle this afternoon.
He said: “It will be a tactical battle. I’ve seen them play three at the back. They might match us up. We are going to do our own thing.
“We’re pretty confident now. We’re going to concentrate on our own thing and not worry about them.”
