LISA MAXWELL: ‘I won’t become a slave to Botox’

LISA Maxwell has told how she got hooked on Botox.
The TV actress started getting the anti-wrinkle treatment because she hated looking older.
But before long she couldn’t resist having top-ups.
Lisa said: “I first had Botox done years ago. I had a few friends who’d had it done and it looked good. The thing is, it does work. It stops you getting lines.
“If you’re going through an insecure phase you’ll try it. But then you become a bit of a slave to it.
“But the psychological thing that goes with that is that when the lines start to show again they suddenly look massive. So then you get even more anxious about it.
“You’re better off finding a way of mentally surrendering to the fact that we’re all getting older.”
Lisa, 55, has now quit Botox and vowed to steer clear of it in future.
Speaking at the TRIC Christmas lunch, she added: “I haven’t had it in a while. You have to be careful because if you have too much then your face stops moving and you start looking weird.
“I think everybody knows if you’ve had stuff done. I learned that it doesn’t work for me. It’s a better lesson to try to accept who you are. “Also, I’m the mother of a 19-year-old daughter and I think it sends out the wrong message if you worry about that stuff. It’s too much.
“There is so much pressure on young women as it is with social media. There are all these perfect pictures on Instagram.
“As a mother I need to try to temper that by not freaking out about my own stuff too much. We don’t realise the pressure youngsters are under these days.”
After more than 30 years in shows including The Bill, Lisa is still in demand.
And she refuses to have plastic surgery to please image-obsessed casting directors.
She said: “It gets to the point where you think ‘I’m not going to be playing those parts anymore’.
“I’ve played a nan on Hollyoaks and that was good. And maybe next I’ll play a greatg randmother.”
