TIME RIGHT TO HEND DROUGHT

- By STEVE MILLAR

LETHAL WEAPON: Mo Salah has become deadly in front of goal JORDAN HENDERSON can almost reach out and touch it – imagine the feel of the silverware in his hands.

And that’s why when asked about Liverpool and the Premier League title, he answers without a flicker: “We’re ready.” Henderson (left) knows Liverpool’s history inside out and all about their 18 title wins. He said: “We definitely have the potential to win trophies. But it’s up to us to do it on the pitch. “I have every confidence with the talent we’ve got and the people in the dressing room that we can go and win trophies in the near future – and hopefully it’s this season.”

Henderson feels privileged to be leading the team and he is boosted in his beliefs by the incredible team spirit evident in the squad.

There’s a strong feeling of brotherhood on the pitch as well with one eye-popping incident in the Champions League victory over Napoli highlighting the passion they demand from each other. Henderson, in a mad moment when the game was stopped, made his feelings known to Virgil van Dijk with the Dutch master giving his skipper a piece of his own mind, too.

The Kop captain said: “I love stuff like that because it shows you’re a proper team. And it shows you care and want to win. Top teams have that demand from each other.

“I was having a go at him and he was probably having a go at me. That’s the relationship we’ve got here. Everything on the pitch is to help the team.

“And afterwards if you want to speak about it you can sort it out. We need people demanding from each other and digging in deep when it’s tough.

“I think we’ve got that and that was just a little instance of that. I’m sure it happens more often than that – but the more of that, the better for me.

“All teams need that. They need that demand from each other. They need to be telling each other how they can improve and what they can do better.”

Champions League qualification is another major plus for Hendo, 28, and the club, with the feelgood factor throughout the camp overwhelming.

Henderson added: “It’s a good mood at the minute. The lads are confident with the performances of late and the results we’ve been getting.

“We know United are a world-class team with a world-class manager so it’s a difficult game.

“As much as people talk about some of the problems they might have had this season, on their day they can beat anybody.

“When you look at the table, you are a little bit surprised that they are not doing as well as they can be. But that certainly doesn’t mean they are less of a threat.

“They have a never-say-die attitude and I’m sure they will be thinking this is the perfect opportunity to come and kickstart their season.

“But we’ve got a fantastic squad and everybody’s fighting to play so it’s a difficult decision for the boss.

“We need to keep using that positive energy whether you’re playing or not. And the lads have been fantastic at that so far.”
