LVG’S PREM TITLE TALK WOULD MEAN THE WORLD TO COADY

fan. But I know the rest of the lads want to win things as much as I do.

“We won’t let this ruin our season. We’ve been really good in the first half of the season and now we need to pick it up again.

“Going to the home of the champions was always going to be tough but we had a game plan. City are a great side, very tough, but we had our chances and didn’t take them. “In the end, we got punished for not making the most of what we created by a quality side which scored two great goals.

“City has gone now though. It’s important we bounce back as quickly as possible. Every competition is important for us. It’s an opportunity to win a trophy and it’s a great opportunity to put this behind us.

“I’m sure the manager sees it like that. He’ll look to put a strong team out to give us the best chance of going through.

“We want to win every competition. That’s how big clubs think. It’s not a case of us dismissing the Wolves game as being low down on our list of priorities. “It’s an important game but even more so after we’ve tasted defeat in the Premier League for the first time. We’ve had a lot of wins this season and we were dreading this moment.

“In the back of our minds, we knew that we would lose a game eventually because football is like that. But City lost their in an FA Cup run. When I was on loan at Sheffield United there was nothing better.

“They were one-off games – we were looking forward to it with anticipation.

“It was special. It was definitely special for me. It gets supporters on the edge of their seats.

“The foreign lads might be new here but it’s an important competition for us.

“You cannot just dismiss the effect of a successful FA Cup run on any club.

“It’s the best thing in the world to have a run in this unbeaten record at Anfield last season – and at the same time of year – and responded by going on another long run of winning games.

“Now it’s about reacting in the right way. Bouncing back.

“The manager is a perfectionist. He will speak to us about this disappointment and tell us what he now expects from us as a team.”

Alexander-Arnold can still vividly recall that 2006 victory at Cardiff – and Steven Gerrard’s stunning last-minute strike which forced extra time before Liverpool beat West Ham on penalties.

History repeating itself this season would make the West Derby-born star’s first dream come true.

Alexander-Arnold added: “I remember Steven Gerrard’s goal against West Ham. It was a great final and a great day for the club.

“We’re all trying to get back to those days again – and hopefully that will happen this season.

“Liverpool are a great club with a massive history and the players who are here now must carry that responsibility.

“We haven’t won a trophy for a few years. It’s been too long, really, for a club like this. But it is what it is. We can only try to do our bit and add to that history.

“Everyone has got to play their part. We’ve got to go out there as a team and try to bring something back home. We’re still in three competitions and hopefully we can win a trophy whatever that will be.

“That means trying to win them all and see where it takes us.”

competition. For Wolves it would absolutely lift everyone and everything up another level.”

Wolves have pre-sold more than 25,000 tickets and hope a few thousand more will be shifted before kick-off.

The club had contrasting fortunes during the holiday period.

The highlight was a 3-1 victory over Spurs at Wembley but the loss to Liverpool was followed up by a defeat too to Crystal Palace and it took a late equaliser to salvage a point from Fulham.

Coady has featured in the League Cup and has no issue with playing in every game. He added: “The game against Palace was flat. We were flat, they were flat and it should have been a draw.

“There are going to be bumps in the road, we knew that. But the club is going in the right direction.

“Liverpool is a great game for everyone. I’ll make sure I’m ready for it.

“I don’t want a rest, I want to play in every game possible.

“The place is going to be rocking. There’s no doubt about that.”
