Ski victim is named

- EXCLUSIVE by ISOBEL DICKINSON Chief Reporter

A BRITISH skier who died after falling from a chairlift in the French Alps has been named.

Jeff Martin, 65, collapsed on the ski lift after he suffered a heart attack.

He then fell from the moving lift from a height of 32 feet.

The accomplished sailor, who lived in Falmouth, Cornwall, was on holiday with family and friends in the resort of Méribel.

An inquiry has been opened to determine the cause of death.

Major Christian Crueize, of the mountain rescue service, said: “The victim got on to the chairlift with a friend.

“After travelling very little distance – perhaps 100 to 200 metres – he fell.

“We don’t know precisely what happened but we are speaking to his friend.

“We don’t know if the safety bar had been locked down into the correct position by the victim or his friend.”

TAXI rapist John Worboys has boasted that female admirers send him more than 50 letters a month.

The serial sex offender told fellow inmates he has even had offers of marriage from women obsessed with his notoriety.

He also claimed he gets money from supporters here and abroad.

Prison sources have confirmed that the rapist receives “fanmail” from both men and women.

But they branded him a fantasist who has exaggerated the number of letters he receives.

Our insider said: “Worboys says he gets around 50 letters a month – the majority of which are from women.

“He said people as far as the US and Australia have heard of him and write to him, like it’s somehow impressive.

“Worboys reckons the women want to meet him and find him very attractive.

“He even tries to claim they tell him he’s served enough time and that he should be released and they back his original parole board decision. But no-one is buying that.”

Police believe Worboys, who was jailed in 2009 for attacks on 12 women, was responsible for more than 100 assaults.

But the serial rapist, who changed his name to John Radford, denies any allegation other than the offences for which he was convicted.

He has also claimed that he will carry on his battle to be released from behind bars.

Last November it was announced that Worboys, who is currently in Wakefield Prison, will remain in jail for at least two more years. Police also revealed he could be charged with new sexual offences.

The Parole Board originally ruled that the 61-year-old could be freed after finding his treatment under psychologists had been “positive”.

But the decision was reversed amid a huge public outcry as two of his victims appealed against the ruling in court.

The Board’s chairman Nick Hardwick was also forced to quit.

Twisted Worboys gave his victims drug-laced champagne before attacking them in the back of his cab.

In 2009, he was convicted at Croydon Crown Court of 19 offences and ordered to serve at least eight years in jail.

Worboys, a former stripper from Rotherhithe, south-east London, has spent a decade in custody including a period on remand.

He targeted young women who had been drinking in bars and nightclubs in London’s West End and in Chelsea.

The cabbie pretended to have won the lottery and offered his customers champagne, wine and vodka to celebrate with him.

To give his story credibility he stuffed £4,000 in notes into a carrier bag and said it was his winnings.

But the drinks he offered the women he targeted had been laced with powerful sedatives.

Before working in London, Worboys was a cab driver in Bournemouth. It is feared he targeted at least four women in the Dorset resort.

He owns a home in Pine Park Mansions in neighbouring Poole where he is said to have previously made porn films.
