SAS UNLEASH HELL IN REVENGE STRIKE Elite force shoot dead 20 fanatics in Syria mission

- EXCLUSIVE by JOHN WARD

THE SAS have taken revenge for a missile attack which wounded two of their comrades.

More than 30 troops, including two sniper teams, killed up to 20 jihadis in an ambush in Syria.

The strike came just 24 hours after Islamic State fighters wounded two SAS men in a missile attack.

Sources say the Brits’ mission has stunned Isis leaders in the country and terrified its fighters.

The SAS approached the terrorist stronghold by helicopter two hours before dawn.

As the sun rose the SAS moved in using intelligence from a US drone flying 18,000ft overhead.

An assault team then fired grenades and missiles into the fortified compound. Eight gunmen were picked off by SAS snipers as they tried to escape in two Toyota Land Cruisers after fleeing via a rear exit.

One source said: “Every Brit in Syria volunteered for the operation. It was pay-back time.

“The attack went like clockwork. Every time an Islamic State unit is attacked they panic. They put up a bit of a fire-fight, but if the battle isn’t going their way they make a run for it.

“They rarely stand and fight unless they have overwhelming force.

“The SAS on the ground predicted exactly what the terrorists’ response would be and they were 100 per cent correct. It was all over in less than 30 minutes. Some of those who took part described it as a ‘turkey shoot’.” Our source said the SAS found a stash of missiles when they searched the jihadis’ compound.

They were destroyed along with an amount of plastic explosive and eight suicide vests.

The wounded Brits had been operating alongside Syrian Democratic Forces in a mission to liberate the town of al-Shaafa.

The men are undergoing medical treatment after being flown back to the UK.

Although there are no official troop deployments in Syria, the Parachute Regiment and Royal Marines, as well as the SAS, are believed to have men in the region.

The MoD says it does not comment on special forces missions.
