‘I had to go’ admits Nuno after being sent to stands

-

NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO backed referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision to send him off as Wolves left it late to edge a thrilling 4-3 win over Leicester. The Portuguese boss was ordered to the tunnel for charging down the touchline to celebrate his side’s astonishing stoppage-time winner. Diogo Jota rammed home the 93rd-minute clincher and the Wolves gaffer admitted he just could not stop himself going bonkers.

He raced towards the pile of celebrating players and conceded afterwards that he gave the referee no choice.

Nuno said: “It’s the law. The law is clear but I was just full of emotion. I was happy.

“To finish the game like that gave me tremendous happiness. It wasn’t bad or disrespectful, I was just so happy and it was difficult to contain. “Especially the way the game was. But the referee had a word with me and said, ‘You’re not allowed to go out of your technical area.’ He’s right but it happens. I don’t know if it will happen again.”

Nuno now faces an FA rap but he will happily pay any fine to experience the sheer joy of Wolves’ grandstand finish. He said: “To finish a game like that just gives you tremendous happiness. As a manager it’s difficult to explain.

“It was a very, very good game and credit to Leicester for getting back the way they did.”

But it was a sickening blow for Leicester boss Claude Puel who held his hands over his face after the home side’s winning goal. Puel said: “It was a crazy game. We started poorly. It was a fantastic feeling to come back. “But we were naive and we must learn from that.

“We needed to run the clock down when Wes Morgan scored our third goal. But we didn’t manage it and that’s disappointing.”
