TERRIERS CAN STILL BITE BACK

- Last five meetings Overall record

He will back you. Dean appears to have something up his sleeve because there is going to be an announcement after the Manchester City game about a new manager.

“David Wagner was on nobody’s radar before he was appointed. There could be something left-field again.”

Clark was not surprised at the promise from Wagner that his family would stay in touch with Hoyle despite last week’s surprise parting.

“It’s been a tough few days for the club. I can imagine people behind the scenes are finding it hard. I can go back to my time where I had a great relationship with the people there and I wasn’t as successful as David,” he added.

“The owner is a die-hard fan – there are very few of those in the Premier League these days.

“There are pictures in the stadium of Dean Hoyle supporting them at the old Leeds Road ground. He lives and breathes Huddersfield Town and he will be gutted by this decision.

“I still keep in touch with him and have a great relationship with him – and he sacked me! You saw David saying the respective families will stay close and that’s the way it is with Dean.”

Now says Clark there could not be a more fitting tribute to Wagner than to create a shock against City this afternoon.

“Manchester City coming to town, it’s like you are fighting the world but this is what it’s all about when you’re in the Premier League. Knowing Dean, he and the club will be embracing that challenge,” he added. will have the same mindset against us that they did against Rotherham, Burton and Wolves.

“But this group really does like a challenge – and that will be my message to them. We can show everybody what we are about as a club.”

Hudson spent the last three years of his playing career at the Terriers and helped Wagner take the club into the Premier League for the first time before moving on to the German’s coaching staff.

Town have already opened talks with Borussia Dortmund Under-23s coach Jan Siewert to become their next permanent boss.

But ex-centre-back Hudson is seen as management material and will be groomed to step up in the future.

He accepts that beating relegation would be a bigger achievement than both promotion and last season’s great escape.

Hudson said: “People write us off. But we are happy to try and prove them all wrong.”
