SURFER DIES AS ERIK HITS

-

A KITESURFER has died as Storm Erik battered Britain with gusts of 80mph.

The man was on the beach at Saunton Sands, Barnstaple, north Devon, yesterday morning.

An eyewitness said: “The man is believed to be a local kitesurfer who was caught out in rough weather.” PRINCE Philip is to voluntarily give up his driving licence.

The 97-year-old took the decision after he was involved in a serious car crash last month.

Philip was unhurt when his Land Rover overturned in a collision with a Kia in Norfolk.

The Kia was carrying a nine-month-old baby, his mother who was driving, and passenger Emma Fairweather. The baby was unharmed but both women had to be treated in hospital.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “After careful consideration the Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence.”
