A POSTWOMAN called Valentine is delivering romance to couples this year.

Shirli Valentine will bring thousands of cards to loved ones on February 14.

And the Royal Mail worker says delivering Valentine’s messages is the best part of her job.

She explained: “It’s really a special day.

“Knowing that we’re delivering, hopefully, good news to people is lovely.

“I’m always kept very busy around Valentine’s Day, as cards in particular are very popular on my route.

“It’s nice to know that I’m seen as a local cupid of sorts.”

Shirli, whose name is similar to the character played by Pauline Collins in the hit 1989 romantic comedy Shirley Valentine, added: “There’s nothing like seeing someone’s face light up when they open the door to us and see they’ve got something special, whether it’s a card or flowers.

“You can’t beat that feeling of making someone happy.

“The only downside would be the look of disappointment on someone’s face if they don’t get anything but hopefully that wouldn’t happen.”

Happily married Shirli has been delivering the mail in Winton, Bournemouth, for more than 12 years.

She started her job after retiring as a professional tennis player.
