A VICIOUS thug who tried to gouge out his partner’s eyes with a broom handle in a brutal attack is set to be released.
Samantha Jenkins, 33, was beaten by Kevin Owen during a drunken rage one evening at the flat they shared .
He threw a TV and glass ashtray at his terrified girlfriend, tried to strangle her and used such force he snapped the broom handle in half during the assault – which lasted for an hour and a half. Her two front teeth were knocked out and she had to have stitches in her head after the bloody beating. But Owen is due to be released in May, just four years after he was jailed for nine years. Samantha said: “I was fighting for my life and it lasted for well over an hour.
“He was always picking at me and he could be violent and aggressive. He’d hit me on previous occasions – but it got worse the longer we were together, becoming a daily occurrence.
“I’d become numb to the abuse and didn’t expect anything truly bad to happen,
