Becks to become a statue

-

A STATUE of David Beckham is to be unveiled outside LA Galaxy’s stadium next month.

Beckham, 43, is the first player to be honoured this way in the history of US Major League Soccer.

The former England captain played for LA Galaxy for six years after joining in

2007, winning back to back MLS Cups in 2011 and 2012.

His statue will be unveiled at Dignity Health Sports Park before the team’s first game of the season against Chicago Fire on March 2.

Becks, who made 115 appearances for England, joined LA Galaxy after four years at Real Madrid following his departure from Manchester United in 2003.

He was criticised by some Galaxy fans after agreeing loan moves to AC Milan in

2009 and 2010, which meant missing part of the MLS season.

But he left the club to acclaim in 2012 after retaining the title.

He subsequently signed a short-term deal with Paris St Germain before retiring in 2013.

Beckham became a partowner of non-league club Salford City last month alongside former United teammates Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.

He also co-owns Inter Miami, which is set to join the MLS in 2020.
