We’ve Gat a lot of work to do WARREN WARY OF ENGLAND

WARREN GATLAND admits his men will be “embarrassed” by England if they repeat this spluttering performance in Cardiff.

Yet the New Zealander also insisted there is no way Wales will be as poor when the Red Rose arrive at the Principality Stadium in 13 days’ time.

The visitors missed out on a winning bonus point in Rome, having to rely on two tries from Josh Adams and Owen Watkin to overcome the Six Nations minnows.

And a clearly unhappy Gatland (right) said: “If we play like that it could be embarrassing. But we won’t play like that, will we!

“England are a very good side at the moment and the performance level will need to be a lot higher.

“We didn’t play with any tempo or real cohesion. We never really got up a head of steam and allowed Italy to stay in the game. It was a disjointed performance.”

At least he could toast a record-equalling 11th victory for Wales but captain Jonathan Davies said: “There is a lot of frustration.

“There was plenty of effort but we didn’t GARY FITZGERALD Italy 15 Wales 26

turn our pressure into enough points and made too many silly handling errors. “We need to be more accurate in order to keep this momentum going. It was sloppy at times and we made life hard for ourselves, especially in the first half.

“We will have to be a lot better for a massive challenge ahead against England. The guys are very excited about that one and it’s going to be a tasty one, I’m sure.” Fly-half Dan Biggar put Wales 9-0 ahead with three penalties but, after he had kicked a fourth, Italy grabbed a converted opening try through lock Braam Steyn. Allen kicked his side to within two points but Adams took Liam Williams’ pass and raced in for a converted try. Replacement Gareth Anscombe’s sublime chip put centre Watkin over for the Dragons’ crucial second try before wing Edoardo Padovani replied with a well-worked score.
