FIRST CHOICE: Kenedy is nearing return

CHELSEA loanee Kenedy has been having one-to-one chats with Rafa Benitez to get his career back on track.

The Brazil winger, 23, is getting the personal touch from Benitez who is searching for Kenedy’s sparkling form of last season. Benitez says there was no chance he would send Kenedy back to Chelsea in January, despite the club needing to make their domestic loan players perform. The youngster has had personal issues, become a father again and failed to bounce back from a poor game against Cardiff in August when he missed a last-minute penalty. But he is in with a chance of facing Wolves tomorrow night after impressing in training. Benitez said: “Kenedy is another player training well. Everyone can see his potential. This year he has to reach his level again. He is working to do that. We want to give him his chance.

“Each year is different. He was taking time to settle down here again. He had another baby, he was taking some time.

“Now he has to start again. Chelsea are following him. We have been talking. They know he is not playing at the same level. They can see him when he comes on the pitch.

“He has the potential. We have seen it ourselves.

“We have had a lot of conversations, watching videos, talking with him and people close to him to be sure he is focused.” Dec 2018: Newcastle 1 Wolves 2 Feb 2017: Wolves 0 Newcastle 1 Sep 2016: Newcastle 2 Wolves 0 Sep 2016: Newcastle 0 Wolves 2 Feb 2012: Newcastle 2 Wolves 2
