their confidence. And then an atmosphere was created that wasn’t healthy. Sometimes I was playing well and I scored a goal and he took me off.

“I’ve played football since I was five and if I have the ball taken away from me, it’s as if I lose my joy.”

Sanchez says he loses his spark if he isn’t playing regularly – but he doesn’t need Solskjaer to tell him what he needs to do.

He said: “I’m an experienced player and I think I know what I need to do and what I shouldn’t do. I know when I need to take a player on and when not to.

“I’m a player that, if I’m not in contact with the ball, I lose that spark. I want to play in every game. I want to train even if we’ve played the day before.

“I would like to have brought more joy to the club, more things. Gradually I’d say, time will tell what happens.”

Meanwhile, Solskjaer accepts Man United’s quest for FA Cup glory will have to be earned “the hard way”.

After overcoming Arsenal at The Emirates in the last round, United were unluckily handed a second trip to London to take on Chelsea, another of their Premier League top-four rivals.

But Solskjaer has pointed out the first of his two triumphs in the competition as a player – as part of United’s Treble in 1999 – was equally as tough.

United’s interim manager said: “In 1999, we beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to get to the final. And we beat Arsenal and Liverpool as well that season.

“We did it the hard way then and we’ll have to do it the hard way again if we want to get to the final. I’m looking forward to it.”

Solskjaer suffered his first defeat in his 12th match as United caretaker boss in midweek after Paris St-Germain clinched a 2-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 fixture.

Unless United stage a remarkable comeback at the Parc des Princes in the second leg, the FA Cup will be the only chance Solskjaer has of silverware.

The Norwegian will be without Lingard and Martial at Stamford Bridge and is not about to take Chelsea lightly despite their two humiliating away defeats recently.

Solskjaer was in attendance as the Blues were hammered 6-0 by Manchester City last Sunday, a loss that came less than two weeks after a 4-0 humbling at Bournemouth.

He said: “I went to see them against City and City were clinical. But Chelsea have certainly got some fantastic players as well.

“They could have scored two or three easily in the first half as well in that game. There are fine margins.

“They could easily have been two or three up against Bournemouth as well before they lost 4-0.

“It’s those little things that decide games.” Oct 2018: Chelsea 2 Man United 2 May 2018: Chelsea 1 Man United 0 Feb 2018: Man United 2 Chelsea 1 Nov 2017: Chelsea 1 Man United 0 Apr 2017: Man United 2 Chelsea 0
