TELLY star Katherine Kelly says she isn’t bothered if viewers hate her acting.

The ex-Corrie actress, 39, insists she takes no interest in what people say about her performances.

She told the Daily Star Sunday: “I don’t mind if people don’t like things I do. Of course that’s not ideal. “But I respect that people have a view and I’m quite happy for them to tell me the truth. “Everyone’s opinion is valid. As long as it’s not just mean for the sake of being mean, I don’t mind. If someone doesn’t enjoy something they have the right to say it. “And at the end of the day it’s none of my business what people think.”

Katherine, inset, who has starred on hits including Mr Selfridge and Happy Valley, never looks online to see what viewers think.

She added: “I don’t worry myself about it and I never have done.

“I barely even look at social media. I think there’s just so much. I don’t go out seeking opinions.” Katherine returns to screens next week in new drama Cheat. ITV chiefs are so confident it will be a hit they’re airing it in the plum 9pm slot four nights in a row.

And Katherine isn’t scared of the competition.

She said: “People vote with their remote and that’s the joy of television.

“If they like it they stick with it, and if they don’t, they don’t. I like the fairness of that. I enjoy that healthy competition.”

In Cheat, mother-of-two Katherine plays a university lecturer locked in a battle of wits with a student, played by Molly Windsor, 21.

It is packed with twists and turns to keep viewers hooked. Katherine said: “The scripts really took me by surprise from the first day and we tried to maintain that when we filmed it.

“Every time there was an obvious choice to be made, we tried to make a different one.

“Viewers will think they know my character. But we made sure she wasn’t predictable.

“The reality is we’re all contrary. We have insides and outsides. We give out one reaction to the world and then when we’re on our own we’re different.

“Only we know who we are really and what horrible things we think and what terrible humans beings we are.”
