JOSHUA’S OUT TO BE A TRUE AMERICAN IDOL
ANTHONY JOSHUA has told Jarrell Miller he’s looking at the new king of New York.
The WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion will fight outside Britain for the first time on June 1 when he heads to Miller’s home city to face him in Madison Square Garden.
And by the time he is done with the Brooklyn-born challenger he reckons he will have formally announced himself on the other side of the pond. Joshua, 29, said: “When we were out there we had good fun.
“We’ve been out maybe five times now doing the Conan show, ESPN, we went to different basketball games and did a lot of groundwork.
“And now we’re actually fighting, it’s time to put my crown on and take over.” Joshua’s trip included a visit to the New York Stock Exchange – not a bad idea as he’ll make around £19million from the Miller clash.
And while Forbes estimate his net worth at £30m, Joshua (left) said: “I live within my means. I don’t own 10 Rolls-Royces, Lamborghinis, Ferraris 10 mansions.
“So it hasn’t changed that aspect. My reputation is more important than what’s in the bank.
“I’ve been around billionaires and it’s not so much about their money as their character. You can tell when someone has new money, big chains, they’re flash and all that s***.”
Asked if Miller was in that bracket, he said: “Yes, you can tell. So you have to learn that respect takes you further.”
