LUCK STORY Jamie like he did with Luis

- By NEIL MOXLEY

BRENDAN RODGERS says Jamie Vardy will flourish under him – just like Luis Suarez did.

is to get players closer to him. Leicester sit deeper – so and the gap between him and the rest of the team is bigger.

“The ball goes up to him and he’s fighting on his own.

“Also because of the title win and the threat he carries, space is no longer there all the time, especially at home.

“So when teams are banked up you have to find a way and a method that still exploits his qualities.

“I have spoken to him about it at length before training this week – the areas we could get him into and how we were going to play against teams that just sit deep because they don’t want him to exploit the space.

“I want to give him other ideas and simplify the game for him.

“You saw the other night against Brighton what he is. He makes the run, gets a pass and supplies his finish.

“He needs the service but when the ball comes in he’s just a natural. He has been since he was a young boy, I’m looking forward to seeing him develop.”

Vardy, 32, has three years left on his contract and Rodgers believes there is still plenty of mileage in his legs. He added: “I think if you look at his legs and this is where observation is very important for a manager, he’s still super-fast, he’s dynamic, he’s quick, he’s fit, so he’s still in really good shape. “He’s got a really good figure. His body weight is good, he looks after himself and I think he will really enjoy this way of working.”

Rodgers (below) left behind broken hearts among Celtic ranks and is keen to smooth over a few ruffled feathers.

He denied using the Scottish champions as a stepping stone – and also said that he was at the King Power Stadium becauseof the‘fantastic opportunity.’

He added: “People might think: ‘Oh, he’s jumped at the first opportunity.’

“I had four chances to leave Celtic. And I only left because of this club. “People who know Leicester and the ambition of the owners probably understand it better. I’m 100 per cent committed to being here for a period of time. That’s my only thought and I’m excited to be here.”
