NOU SURRENDER FROM HERO OF ’99

- By STEVE MILLAR

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER will summon the spirit of 1999 as inspiration when Manchester United fight for their Champions League lives on Wednesday night in Paris.

The 20th anniversary of that historic night in the Nou Camp isn’t lost on Solskjaer, who scored a dramatic injury-time winner against Bayern Munich to win the Champions League final and scoop the Treble.

United looked down and out when Teddy Sheringham and then Solskjaer sensationally struck against all the odds.

Now Solskjaer takes United to Paris Saint-Germain two goals down from the first leg – but determined that if they are going to be eliminated they will go out with a bang, not a whimper.

And the Norwegian pledges to cause “chaos” in another iconic stadium, the Parc des Princes.

The caretaker coach has already ripped up the United record books with eight away wins in a row.

Making it nine is a tough ask but Solskjaer said: “We are not going to go out without giving a fight. I know we can go there and CALM AND COLLECTED: Maurizio Sarri says he is not feeling pressure score a goal and make it chaotic for the last 15-20 minutes.

“We will go out there and try to enjoy the game. We know it is a difficult place to go and we also know they played really well at Old Trafford.

“So that is a great challenge for our players to go there and show what we can do. We’re still in it. We can’t write games off – we have to go there and give it a go.

“We have to think, ‘get to half-time’ or be better than we are now by scoring.

“Being 1-0 at half-time, then anything can happen in the second half.”
