VEST MOB’S PARIS DEMO

-

FRENCH police fired tear gas and arrested dozens of protesters as the yellow vest movement stepped up its four-month revolt against President Emmanuel Macron.

Protesters threw cobblestones at riot police in front of Paris’ Arc de Triomphe monument, which was ransacked during demos in December. More than 30 vigilantes were arrested.

The protests, in which people wear hi-vis vests, began over fuel-tax rises but have since developed into a revolt against “elitism”. COMIC Relief’s Red Nose Day show has suffered a drop in viewer ratings.

Friday’s BBC One event, which raised £63,548,668 for charity, was watched by

5.6million, down 600,000 from the 2017 edition.

On average, only 800,000 more people watched Comic Relief than Coronation Street. The soap, broadcast on ITV at the same time, had an average of 4.8million watching.
