Roof fall knocks Pete off wagon

The recovering alcoholic, played by Chris Gascoyne, tries his best to support factory boss Carla Connor in the aftermath of this week’s big episodes.
Viewers will see the factory roof collapse, killing a much-loved character.
Bosses are keeping quiet as to who dies, but they have revealed that a shadowy figure will be seen sabotaging the roof.
Distraught Carla, who knew that the roof needed urgent repairs but didn’t have the money to pay for it, has no idea it was tampered with and blames herself for the tragedy.
And as she struggles to cope with her guilt, and with the finger of blame being pointed at her, she flees Weatherfield.
Peter goes in search of her. But when he fails to find her his life starts to spiral out of control and he hits the bottle. A Corrie source said: “Peter has battled with the booze for years. He’s not a young man any more, and his liver has been damaged by years of alcohol abuse. It’s a very dangerous situation to be in and the more he drinks, the more damage he’s doing.
“If he doesn’t get the help he needs he could well end up drinking himself to death.”
Last year actor Chris,
51, who has played Peter since 2000, said that if he was ever to leave the soap there’s only one storyline they could do.
He said: “If they said to me that they were going to write Peter out, or I told them that I was finished for good, he would have to drink himself to death.
“I don’t think it would be a very nice storyline, but it would be brilliant.”
