things seriously as they were just showing absolutely no remorse – it was disgusting.

“It was all just a game to them. Although justice has now been served, no sentence can ever bring my Scott back.”

Scott had been enjoying his annual summer fishing trip on Donkey Island, near their home, in July 2016 when the savage attack took place.

Dedicated Lisa would take daily packages of cheese and salad sandwiches and flasks of tea to keep him going while he fished. She said: “I’d been with him the day he was killed. I brought him his food and drinks and we hung out at the campsite together, chatting while he fished.

“Everything was like normal and later on he walked me to the bridge to get back to the mainland, as he always would, and we kissed goodbye.”

Lisa added: “The murder took place just metres away from where I first met Scott, and it was love at first sight. He had a nice stocky build, black hair and brown eyes. He was just a lovely, lovely bloke who would do anything for anyone.

“Scott had been out of work because of his health and he lived for going fishing, especially pike, they were his passion.”

Since his death Lisa, who cares for her disabled son, has struggled to cope, spending “days on end crying”. She said: “It’s like a nightmare that I can never wake up from, I see those boys’ faces in my head 24/7.”
