No Moore managing for Baggies’ lucky Jim

-

JIMMY SHAN admits he expects to return to his role as first-team coach at West Brom even though Kyle Edwards’ stunning first league goal for the Baggies made it two wins from two for the caretaker boss.

Shan was asked to step up after Darren Moore’s shock dismissal last weekend.

And after overseeing a 3-0 win over Swansea in midweek he maintained his winning streak thanks to Edwards’ weaving run and cool 51st-minute finish.

The club is expected to bring in a new face during the international break – but Shan can be satisfied he has done everything asked of him.

He said: “That is two wins in a week with no goals conceded so I am delighted.

“But I know the board are talking to two or three people and I’ll go back to being a first team coach.”

Ex-Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic and Preston’s Alex Neil are front-runners to land the job while Michael Appleton has been touted as a possible temporary appointment until the end of the season.

No matter who is in charge after the break, Albion have been boosted by back-to-back wins thanks to Edwards’ efforts on his full league debut.

The winger, 21, has been at the club since he was six and has been helped through the ranks at The Hawthorns by Shan.

The stand-in manager, who dedicated the win to club secretary Simon Carrington who died last week at the age of 34, said: “I’ve got a lot of faith and trust in Kyle, I have worked with him since he was nine and he is a talented boy.

“He played with maturity and his goal was spectacular and he can feel very proud tonight.”

Brentford are now eight points off the play-offs but boss Thomas Frank refused to give up hope.

He said: “The main thing now is the international break is coming and we can get some players back fit.

“Then we will focus on the next game at Wigan. We will take it one game at a time.”
