ARCHER CAN HIT THE ENGLAND BULLSEYE IN 2019

- RICHARD EDWARDS

JOFRA ARCHER could spell double trouble for Australia this summer – if England take a punt on the all-rounder for both the World Cup and The Ashes. The Barbadian-born Sussex star, 23, has established himself as one of the most exciting exports in global T20 cricket. He will join up with Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League this week and his Big Bash coach is backing him to have a huge impact in all formats if the call comes.

Hobart Hurricanes’ Adam Griffith said: “He’s the complete package.

“He would be a huge asset for England at the World Cup.

“I think there will be a few Aussies hoping that he isn’t in England’s Ashes thoughts as well. He will have bowled against a lot of the Aussie players in the Big Bash and he already has a big reputation here.

“They will know they’re coming up against a pretty handy bowler if he does get that call.”

England’s need for a bowler with genuine pace gives 90mph Archer (left) a chance of breaking into a Test side still smarting from a series defeat in the West Indies. And Griffith has no doubt that a Test call-up for the country of his father’s birth is definitely on Archer’s radar.

He said: “He wants to play Tests – that’s the message he gave to us.

“He enjoys playing first-class cricket, not just the white ball stuff.

“He’s not one of these players who just wants to chase the dollar around the world.”
