KORN WIFE’S DEATH INSPIRES NEW ALBUM

-

LOSS, pain and tragedy helped nu-metal legends

to make their most inspiring work yet.

Frontman Jonathan Davis lost his wife Deven to an accidental drugs overdose last year.

The singer poured his heart and soul into work, resulting in Korn’s 13th album The Nothing.

Davis explained: “I had my wife in my head from start to finish. And my kids.

“I had to deal with all these emotions that tortured my mind. All the songs are connected, all inspired by the same subjects.

“It’s Jonathan Davis totally lost, trying to find his feet...I’ve never been this sincere.”

Davis admits it led to some of the band’s “darkest” work but it was also a cathartic experience for the American, who thanks his two sons for helping him.

He agreed: “Luckily I’ve got my kids. It was them who helped me head back into a good place.

“My boys and the music were the only thing that I could hold on to. And it’s no exaggeration that this is one of the best Korn albums. It’s the curse of an artist to be at the top when you hit the bottom.

“Expressing myself through music, it really helped me get better.”

The Nothing features the frontman’s signature bagpipes, an instrument he reserves for special LPs.

“I don’t put it on all the records but this time it was important.

“Because this record is special to me. I only want bagpipes on records that have a special place in my heart.

“They are the same bagpipes I have been playing since we started. My grandma gave them to me in the 80s. I had them restored recently.” The new music was recorded by the other band members while Davis, pictured with Deven, was on a solo tour and then added his parts at his California home. He explained: “I live in Bakersfield. I stay at home or in my studio. That’s where I recorded all my vocals for the new album.

“I don’t like anybody being around when I record. And I definitely don’t like anybody telling me what to do. If they don’t like it, tough.”

The Nothing is out now. Expect Korn tour dates next year.
