OVER TO LEW Haye urges AJ to fight like Lennox

- By CHRIS McKENNA

ANTHONY JOSHUA has to copy Lennox Lewis if he wants to ensure he gets revenge against Andy Ruiz Jnr.

That is the view of former world heavyweight champion David Haye.

The ex-WBA title holder believes Joshua must imitate Lewis’ style to stay out of trouble when he meets Ruiz Jnr (right) again on December 7 in Saudi Arabia.

The big Brit was stunned by the Mexican-American when he was stopped in their WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight fight on June 1 in New York.

Haye says Joshua should watch Lewis’ big fights to see how the ex-champion kept opponents off him with his impressive jab.

Lewis also has of getting revenge as he history beat Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman in rematches.

Haye said: “He needs to watch Lennox Lewis fights non-stop between now and fight night.

“Just keep it long, do what Lennox Lewis used to do against shorter guys, keep him at the end of the jab and when he rushes in, hit him with the big uppercut or right hand.

“Sounds simple because the guy is so physically inferior to him, he should be able to win seven rounds.

“Aim to win the fight on points and then if there’s a knockout that’s a bonus.

“What you don’t want to do is stand toe-to-toe and try and get this little guy out of there. “If he can win the fight the first one will go down as a hiccup that can happen, same as Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall with Lennox Lewis.” Haye’s advice is interesting considering Joshua and Lewis are currently at loggerheads. Joshua labelled the former champion a “clown” after Lewis criticised his performance against Ruiz Jnr. Watford warrior Joshua needs to beat Ruiz Jnr to reclaim the WBA, WBO and IBF titles and get his career back on track.

But he can’t get desperate according to Haye, who added: “He is a supreme athlete, a physical specimen and he can keep a fighter at long range if that’s what his plan is.

“All he has to do is win seven of the rounds and not get knocked down in the remaining five, he wins the fight.

“It sounds easy.

“Win seven rounds on the jab, hold him, tie him up for the rest of the time.

“He can win, for sure and I think he will win if he applies those tactics.

“If he stands there and does what the fans want him to do, go to war, he has a strong chance of the same thing happening again.

“I don’t believe it’s in his interest to stand toe-to-toe with Andy Ruiz Jr and end up in a shootout situation.”
