Star of the cho NOW FODEN NEEDS TO MATCH JADON

-

JADON SANCHO may still be a teenager but he’s already a trailblazer for the future stars of English football. start just two more games in the league. Unlike Sancho, Foden did go on City’s pre-season tour of America that summer and starred against Manchester United in Houston to leave Guardiola gushing when he said: “It’s a long time since I saw something like this. His performance was another level. .”

Unfortunately for Foden, it’s been a “long time” waiting to see him fulfil his undoubted potential. He might be a “gift” but he’s also one Guardiola is reluctant to unwrap.

He wants Foden to knock down his door demanding to play. Foden said recently that’s not his style and that he will continue to show his boss on the training ground that he’s good to go and can be trusted.

But Foden might need to change his approach if he wants to avoid weeks like the one just gone. One in which he scored twice for the England Under-21s then went home to watch his mate do the same for the senior team in the thrilling 5-3 win over Kosovo.

That could have been Foden but it never will be until he’s playing regular first-team football. England boss Gareth Southgate has made this clear.

Sancho has won eight senior caps and, barring injury, will be part of Southgate’s squad looking to win Euro 2020.

Foden and Sancho both inspired England Under-17s to World Cup glory in India.

They used to have a lot in common but now all Foden has in common with Sancho is the need to follow in his footsteps and turn his back on a managerial genius to further his progress – even if it means going out on loan.
