Unhappy boss Tony claims Rovers still have Mow to offer

- By NEIL GOULDING

Clarets started well and could have led when Adam Webster hacked the ball on to Shane Duffy and over the bar.

Jack Cork’s shot was then blocked by Glenn

Murray.

But a Potter tactical switch changed the game, with

Brighton moving to a back four.

Solly March,

Murray and Maupay brought saves from Nick

Pope, while

Murray glanced his header just wide.

In the 52nd minute Maupay volleyed the opening goal from March’s cross. And Brighton should have doubled their lead five minutes later but Davy Propper headed over.

Jay Rodriguez was loudly jeered by the home fans when he came on for Chris Wood in the 66th minute after being involved in an alleged racism case towards Brighton defender Gaetan

Bong last year but the FA found the case “not proven”.

Ashley Westwood escaped a red card for a foul on Maupay, despite a VAR check. But Hendrick, teed-up by fellow sub Matej

Vydra, had the final say. BLACKBURN boss Tony Mowbray was unhappy despite his side’s comfortable win.

Derrick Williams’

21st-minute firecracker and Bradley Dack’s second-half tap-in did the damage as the Lions were well and truly tamed.

And Rovers would have won by more but for a string of top saves from Millwall keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

But Mowbray said: “I didn’t enjoy watching that to be honest.

“I just feel if we want to be at the top end of this division we need to control games.

“We’re just trying to evolve the team, we need to find different ways to win.

“But it’s good to win when we don’t play well. We got the job done.

“It’s a fourth clean sheet in five games but as a coach you want to control the game.

“We’ve just got to keep going and put today down as a performance which is not as we’d have liked.”

Williams’ second goal of the season was just the start Rovers wanted – and Dack’s

74th-minute clincher gave the home side a deserved win.

Adam Armstrong rifled a right-foot shot straight at Bialkowski as Rovers started strongly.

And the opener was not long coming as Williams found the bottom-right corner with a thunderous drive.

Ryan Leonard fired over from distance as the visitors pushed for an equaliser and Mahlon Romeo forced a good save from Blackburn keeper Christian Walton.

Conor Mahoney blazed over from the edge of the box as the Lions continued to threaten, while at the other end Elliott Bennett could have doubled the home side’s lead but dragged his shot horribly wide.

Leonard also shot wide five minutes after the break but it was Rovers who had the better of the chances.

Bialkowski pulled off a fine one-handed save from Stewart Downing’s stinging drive and made an even better point-blank block to deny Armstrong from six yards out.

Leonard then had another good chance to score but fired over. Dack finally put the contest out of reach when he tapped in unmarked at the back post after an inchperfect pass across the face of goal from Darragh Lenihan.

Bialkowski produced a stunning close-range save to deny substitute Joe Rothwell in the dying stages but even his heroics couldn’t prevent a Lions defeat.

Frustrated Millwall boss Neil Harris said: “It’s disappointing to lose but we are a new group who are developing and it was unjust for us to be down at half-time.

“But in the second half Blackburn were better than us.

“Our keeper made some good saves but it’s fair to say he was a little bit too busy.”
