Abba legend not Bjorn to be a dancer

- By ED GLEAVE

ABBA star Bjorn Ulvaeus has revealed that he is no Dancing Queen.

The music legend, 74 – creator of the dancefloor smash hit – says he hates getting up for a boogie at parties.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I did dance before I became a pop star because that was the only way to get girls. But then when I became a pop star that was not a problem anymore so I stopped dancing.”

Asked if he had ever tried to dance to Abba tracks, he added: “God no. Never. People love to get up and dance to our songs but I don’t. I sit there and watch!”

Abba shot to fame in 1974 when they won Eurovision with their song Waterloo.

The four-piece went on to have No1 hits around the world and sold more than 380million records.

Bjorn said:

“I have several grandchildren. They like my music.

When they’re about seven they get impressed because people at their school say, ‘Your grandad is the one from Abba.’ But then they get over it.”

Bjorn was in the UK last week to launch the new attraction Mamma Mia! The Party at The O2 in London. Meanwhile, Abba are planning a return to the charts next year with two new songs.

Bjorn said: “It was the gay community who underpinned the comeback. People started recording and one of the first bands that did it and was very important for us was Erasure. They did Take A Chance On Me. “Then we felt that we had the full support and it made a lot of difference.”
