Harry’s blast at fake mates

-

PEAKY Blinders star Harry Kirton has had to ditch fair-weather friends who were using him.

The actor’s fame makes him a target for leeches.

He said: “I am aware that sometimes people are just trying to get something.

“It’s hard. People are good at faking. I’ve had moments where I’ve had to cut ties with people.

“I try to be friendly – I’m not going to hate someone for liking what I do. But I don’t want people thinking, ‘Harry plays Finn Shelby, so I’ll be friends with him’.

“That’s a weird thing to say but I know it’s a truth, especially in London where people are always networking.”

Harry has been in Peaky Blinders for five years and it’s made him a favourite with millions of viewers.

But he reckons there will be downsides to his growing fame.

Harry, shown inset after being shot, said: “I’ve only just got my foot in the door.

“But as that widens and the light gets brighter, the more moths you attract.

“I realise what they’re there for. I’m a very real person. I’m good at telling what someone’s intentions are. If I sense fakery or misjudgment on my character as Harry then I don’t stick around.

“I stick around for honesty and appreciation. The humble people will stick next to you. Hopefully my friends will stay loyal.”

Being on telly has also given his love life a boost.

He said: “When there are people I want to get friendlier with I try not to mention my work. That’s something that comes after.

“When it does occur it does add the cherry on the top of hopefully the good impression I make as an individual.”
