Electric Grant aids Danny cause with bragging rights

-

FORMER Charlton ace Karlan Grant hit his eighth goal in 14 games – and had fans chanting: “He’s from Athletic, and he’s just electric!”

Little wonder the

£2million bargain buy is attracting attention from Premier League scouts, with West Ham and Crystal Palace considering potential big-bucks offers.

Grant’s latest strike was a belter.

He took delivery on the left of goal, outwitted Bambo Diaby and Dimitri Cavare, then hit a rising shot beyond the despairing reach of goalkeeper Brad Collins and just inside the far post.

Town boss Danny Cowley said: “I knew he would score and that was a Premier League strike. He is really special.

“His finishing and his composure are great.

“He’s got great pace, too, and that’s the defining factor. We will help him to add more things to his game and that will help him to help us.”

Huddersfield have taken 11 points out of

15 in October and this win lifted them out of the bottom three.

Cowley added: “This was an important win for us in a tough Yorkshire derby. The boys are rightly proud of themselves.

“Going six games unbeaten in this league is quite an achievement.”

The super strike added to the first-half goal by Town skipper Chris Schindler, set up by Grant himself.

But unlike the striker’s impressive run, Schindler’s goal was a rarity – his last one coming a year ago in the top-flight.

Grant hammered in a low cross from the left and the ball eluded Barnsley’s defence before Schindler tapped home.

The German defender may only have chalked up four goals in as many years with the Terriers, but he tends to make his strikes count.

Nothing will match his winner against Reading in the penalty shoot-out at Wembley that propelled Town into the Premier League in 2017.

But yesterday’s goal was vital in taking a win that left luckless Barnsley in bottom spot.

With 10 minutes to go, Jacob Brown pulled one back when he hooked his shot beyond Kamil Grabara. Barnsley started well and had their chances but are still 13 games without a win.

Brown’s goal gave them hope and set up a tense finish only for Town to hang on.

Caretaker boss Adam Murray said: “We started well then emptied ourselves out.

“Individuals have to learn and improve.

“I’m bored with the talk of us being young and naive.

“Players have to stand up and be counted.”

Murray admitted he still wants the job permanently but would not be drawn on the position.

CHRISTIAN PULISIC was ordered to make a difference by Frank Lampard – and his perfect hat-trick certainly ticked that box.

The United States international created a late winner in midweek – and he came up trumps again in stunning fashion at Turf Moor.

His crucial involvement in the Champions League tie at Ajax, when he set up Michy Batshuayi, clearly worked wonders for the American’s confidence as he ripped the sorry Clarets to shreds.

In so doing he helped his club to their seventh victory on the spin – their best winning streak in more than two-and-a-half years.

And when Pulisic found the net with a lovely back-header to kill off the game early in the second-half, he also set a club record. It was the fourth successive match on their
