‘I don’t need an excuse to dress up!’

The Saturdays star Mollie King reveals how she nails the party season look and her plans for a cosy Christmas

-

When a pop band splits up, it’s often an opportunity for members to completely change direction and reinvent themselves – a chance that The Saturdays singer Mollie King grabbed with both hands. Since the group parted ways in 2014, the 34-year-old has thrown herself into new challenges, including taking part in Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017.

She’s also turned her hand to presenting, having landed her own slot on Radio 1’s Friday night show Best New Pop, as well as the Weekend Breakfast Show alongside Matt Edmondson.

And having earned her stripes on the fashion circuit, Mollie has once again teamed up with Littlewoods to model its Christmas partywear collection, which features outfits from a range of high street stores including Warehouse and Oasis.

We were happy to catch up with the down-to-earth star to chat all about her style rules, beauty tips, and why she can’t wait for some R&R over the holiday season…

Hi Mollie. You’ve certainly had another busy year. What would you say has been the highlight for you so far?

I can’t possibly choose one! Cohosting Radio 1 with my partner in crime Matt Edmondson has been a dream, and my Best New Pop show has been amazing.

You look gorgeous in the shoot for Littlewoods…

I never need an excuse to dress up for a party and it was so much fun getting glammed up for this festive shoot in Munich. I really can’t wait for Christmas now! The collection has everything you need for daytime winter walks to something special for a night out. There’s something to suit every woman.

What are your style rules when it comes to choosing an outfit?

I tend not to wear more than three colours at once. I wouldn’t say it was a rule, more just my own preference and taste. I like things to always look clean and simple.

Is that the same when it comes to a date-night outfit?

It’s always something relatively classic. I love wearing ankle boots with a little skirt, but with something oversized on the top.

Which season do you prefer dressing for?

I prefer dressing for autumn/winter because I love layering, so I like big coats and warm jackets.

If you could raid another celebrity’s wardrobe, who would you choose?

I love how chic Victoria Beckham always looks – so sophisticated. I also love how eclectic Olivia Palermo’s style is.You can never guess what she’s going to wear, but it always looks classy.

Which three staples should be in every woman’s wardrobe?

A racer-back white vest. It’s so versatile and can be worn throughout the summer, or layered up in the winter. Also, a classic LBD – you never know when your next night out might be. And something glitzy for Christmas.

A good lipstick. Pillow Talk from Charlotte Tilbury is usually there. Also, a phone charger or battery pack, as I’m always running out of battery on my phone when I need it the most.

How about your go-to glam hair and make-up look?

I don’t do it very often, but for special or black-tie occasions, I really love a natural nude eye and a dark red lip. I feel really glam and made up with a red lip.You can’t go wrong.

Talk us through your typical beauty regime…

I try to look after my skin as much as I can. One of the big things is making sure to take my make-up off. I’m an avid fan of skincare, too, so I love using different types of products to help with that.

Do you have a Holy Grail product when it comes to beauty?

One of my favourite beauty products of all time is the Murad cleanser – I don’t know what I’d do without it!

What are your plans for the festive season this year?

To spend lots of time with my family. It means so much. I have two older sisters and five nephews who are all
