GERMAN’S IN FRAME

- By JERRY LAWTON & GERARD COUZENS

A JAILED German paedophile has emerged as the new suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The monster – banged up in his homeland for other child sex offences – was caught chatting online about the girl after she vanished.

British police are understood to be trying to trace the unnamed suspect’s movements at the time the then-three-yearold, above, vanished from her parents’ apartment in Praia da

Luz, Portugal in 2007.

Goncalo Amaral, the Portuguese detective who initially headed the investigation, said he knew the name of the con in question, but failed to reveal his identity.

The ex-policeman sparked speculation earlier this year after telling an Australian podcast that German Martin Ney had been ruled out of the investigation in 2008. He failed to identify Ney by name at the time.

But now Mr Amaral has fuelled new discussions about the suspect’s true identity by telling a Spanish TV show:

“A paedophile who is German and serving life for killing children has been spoken about.

“It appears that in an Internet chatroom there is a conversation where he talks about Madeleine.”

Ney, 49, pictured, was jailed for life in 2012 for abducting and murdering three children between 1992 and 2001. He targeted kids on holiday by entering their tents or villas with a mask and a weapon.

But when asked whether Ney was guilty of abducting Madeleine, Mr Amaral responded by saying: “It can’t be him.” After talk a fresh person had been flagged up, police in Portugal said in a statement in May: “This investigation has been developed in conjunction with international authorities, following judicial rules of cooperation. “We do not feel it is appropriate to make any further clarifications in the interests of the investigation.”
