Cornish cream of 2019 travel trade ‘Oscars’
CORNWALL is once again the cream of the staycations.
At last year’s holiday “Oscars” it lost its crown when Northumberland took gold in the Best UK County category at the consumer-voted
2019 British Travel Awards,
This week, the home of Poldark returned to top spot at the gala night in London.
Other domestic winners included Bournemouth taking Best Seaside Town, Longleat winning Top Leisure Attraction and Edinburgh Castle scooping Leading Heritage Attraction.
Public voting for the prestigious awards was open from July to September and 402,734 people – up
20% on 2018 – cast 867,221 votes to determine the winners in the annual awards – the largest UK consumer-voted programme across any industry.
The Daily Star Sunday is a media partner of the awards, and travel editors and editorial and advertising executives presented prizes along with industry leaders.

P&O were the big winners with golds for
Family Line,
No-fly Voyages and Best Large
Ships.
Cunard picked up the Luxury and Best
Midsize awards, while Saga won Small and Ultra-small/Boutique Sizes and Viking sailed away with the River accolade.
In the hotels sector, Accor brands Mercure and ibis won the Midscale Plus and Midscale/Economy titles respectively, with Luxury gold to Marriott and Upscale to Crowne Plaza. RIU was the top All-inclusive.
