I’m beating men who say I can’t race bikes because I’m a woman
TRACK ACE JODIE SHAMING SEXISTS
A GIRL racer is out to prove her hot wheels are better than any bloke’s.
Jodie Fieldhouse is one of the few women competing professionally against male riders.
The 20-year-old has taken on eight championship races, winning one, in pink leathers on a fuchsia Honda.
Despite holding her ground on the track, she says she is often cat-called by the crowd.
She is sick of sexists who tell her she cannot win because she is a woman.
Jodie said: “I was told not long ago that I could never win a race because I was a girl and I was too fat.
“The dad of one of the lads I was racing against told me that. I proved him wrong – I won my first race the year after.
“When I started, some people did all they could to run me down. But now they know I am here to stay.
“People would say things behind my back or we quite often got ‘you’re only getting that because you’re a girl.’
“It just gave me motivation to try even harder because I wanted to prove everyone wrong.”
Jodie only started racing four years ago. She said: “I had seen with my dad that at local circuits they did mini-moto racing and I wanted to do it.
“So me and my dad bought a mini-moto,
I went down there and had fun – and the bike has been getting bigger and bigger since.”
Although riding can be dangerous – she broke her arm earlier this year –
Jodie has not let anything stand in her way.
She told us:
“What I like about racing is the thrill, it’s a completely different world when you’re out there, you get a huge adrenaline rush.
“My favourite colour is pink and I always knew
I wanted my bike to be pink.
“It sends out a nice message – a lot of young girls tell me, ‘We’ve seen you on the track, you are in pink,’ which means we can inspire a few more people to be out there,” added Jodie, of Westonsuper-Mare, Somerset.
