‘Me and Tommy just work’

Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague chats beauty, being recognised and her romantic boyfriend

-

Molly-Mae Hague and her professional boxer boyfriend Tommy Fury may not have come first on Love Island back in July, but five months on and still going strong, you could argue they are the real winners.

While all but one of the other couples split relatively quickly after going back to real life, Molly’s relationship has bucked the trend, with her and Tommy even moving in together in September.

All the while, the 20-year-old influencer has been busier than ever, with herYouTube channel, clothing collections and, most recently, a day-to-night eyelash collaboration with Tatti Lashes.

And while she doesn’t rule out doing another reality show in the future, it’s clear she’s focusing on the here and now.

She tells us about life after Love Island, why Tommy is the perfect boyfriend and the reason she’ll never see herself as a celebrity…

Hi MollyMae. It’s been quite a year. How have you adjusted to being in the public eye?

The past few months have been the best months of my entire life. Before I went into the villa I was an influencer, so I had an idea of what might happen when I came out, but not on this scale.

Do you get recognised a lot?

Everyone does seem to know who me and

Tommy are now, but it’s nice. We don’t act like big celebrities because we’re not. We’ve just been on Love Island and a couple of months ago we lived very normal lives, so we’re not going to act differently to what we did before. When we were in the villa we both said we couldn’t wait to go on usual dates, like the cinema and dinner, and a couple of days after we got out that’s exactly what we did. Our favourite thing to do is go out for dinner to TGIs.

How are things between you?

We’re really good. He’s so supportive of me and backs me 100 percent. He’s hands down the best boyfriend and very sweet.

He was the romantic one in the villa, but are you secretly like that as well?

It’s a very equal thing. I’m just not as expressive as he is – everyone saw that in the villa and that’s why I got a lot of hate, but that’s just the way I am. Now everyone can see we just work. You don’t have to gush about the other person 24/7 to have a successful relationship.

You’ve moved in together. Could marriage and babies be on the cards next?

It probably will happen, but not for a long time. I’m not worrying about it just yet, I’m focusing on what’s going on right now.

Will you be spending Christmas with each other?

I don’t even know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow, let alone what we’ll be doing for Christmas! We’ve just got our new flat, so we’re not quite sure where we will be and what we’ll be doing.

Did you have a plan of what you wanted to do after appearing on Love Island?

When I went into the villa it was a very quick decision. Then, in the blink of an eye, I was there, so I didn’t have time to think, or worry about the outside, as you are completely engulfed in the villa and the people around you. Everything that’s happened since has just been a complete bonus. I never imagined I’d be doing the things I’m doing now.

What’s been the highlight?

Collaborating with brands that I’ve used and been a fan of for years. I will only work with brands that I adored before I went onto Love Island. For instance, whenever I had my make-up done, they’d always use Tatti Lashes and when I was in the villa, I used to wear natural, more subtle lashes, so it’s the perfect collaboration.

Have you always been passionate about beauty?

Beauty and make-up are a huge part of most girls’ lives, but for me they’re massive. Ever since I was young, I’ve been stealing my mum’s lipstick! I have myYouTube channel that’s based around those themes.

I don’t think I’m the best at applying make-up, I never claim to be a professional artist, but I think you learn how to master your own face and I’ve done that.

What products do you always have in your make-up bag?

Number one is eyelashes and, after that, I love a brown eyeliner pencil. When I do my make-up, I like to draw my beauty marks and moles back on, as it makes my face look a bit more natural. Plus, a lip liner and a good foundation.

How would you best describe your style?

It honestly just depends on what mood I’m in. One day I could be wearing a black grunge outfit with loads of jewellery and the next I’ll be in a pink dress. You don’t know what you’re going to get with me!

Who is your celebrity style and beauty icon?

Hailey Bieber. I recently did a redcarpet look inspired by her, which I loved.

Who else are you still in touch with from the villa?

Me and Amber Gill chat quite a bit. And then I see and talk to Maura Higgins. I can’t wait to watch her on Dancing On Ice!
