So close and yet so Vard
OWN GOAL DECISION SEES JAMIE MISS OUT ON STRIKE IN 9th CONSECUTIVE PREM MATCH AS FOXES LET IT SLIP
LEICESTER boss Brendan Rodgers says his side are only concentrating on themselves after a draw at home to Norwich.
After eight wins on the spin – in which striker Jamie Vardy scored at least once in EVERY game – the Foxes’ run came to an abrupt end against the struggling Canaries.
And Vardy came so close to making it nine league games in a row with a goal but his header – that was going wide – was given as an own goal from Norwich stopper Tim Krul.
That came after Teemu Pukki’s ninth goal of the season gave the visitors the lead.
A draw means secondplaced Leicester are 10 points adrift of
Premier
League leaders Liverpool.
But
Rodgers reckons the gap to his former side is not his focus.
He said: “It’s not something we’ve spoken about, everyone else has.
“These players have been brilliant, it says everything we have drawn a game and everyone is disappointed. We weren’t quite at our level but we managed to get back and get a point.
“We’ll get ready for a Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday at Everton.
“It was probably the right result. We didn’t start so well and our passing was slow.
“Norwich played well in the opening period. We needed to change it, because it wasn’t quite working for us.
“We made the change and we were better at 4-3-3. In the second half we were much better.” On Vardy and his run of goals, Rodgers added: “I’m disappointed for him, he has made a great run across.
“I thought it was his goal until I came in. Although he didn’t have a lot of service to go at today he was terrific throughout.”
